G'day

It was Vertol H-21A s/n 9613 and coded QT*613 from No. 121 Communications and Rescue Flight based at R.C.AF. Station Sea Island (Vancouver), B.C. The helicopter was on a ferry flight when it slammed into Santa Rosa Mountain, British Columbia on the 21st of April 1955 in bad weather. The helicopter burned out. Two R.C.A.F. Airmen were killed. They were:

Flying Officer Donald Edward West

Corporal Eric Joseph Ericson

BLOCKED BY SNOW. ROSSLAND, BC, April 23
Five feet of snow and rugged terrain blocked a five-man RCAF team Friday that
tried to recover three bodies from a helicopter crash on Santa Rosa summit.
Also got this from The Ottawa Journal (April 23, 1955)

Salut Benoit

The unit was No. 121 Communications and Rescue Flight. They were later re-designated as No. 121 (K) Unit on the 1st of January 1959 which was well after the accident. Note: K stands for Composite. No. 121 (K) Unit later became No. 121 (K) Flight and moved to R.C.A.F. Station Comox, British Columbia as of the 1st of July 1964.

Cheers...Chris

From the Grand Forks Gazette dated Thursday, April 21, 1955
Three Dead, Two Injured in 'Coper Crash Near Santa Rosa Summit
Three men are dead and two injured in a RCAF helicopter crash somewhere in the vicinity of Santa Rosa summit just off the southern trans-provincial highway. All but one man were RCAF personnel.
The helicopter is the same one that passed over Grand Forks at noon today flying at an elevation estimated at from three to five hundred feet. How the accident occurred is not known.
The helicopter was first believed in trouble when it did not arrive in Castlegar on time.
The plane was a Piaseecki type helicoper. The two injured men are in Rossland hospital.
