The easiest conclusion is that the lady's partner has an interesting way of deciding priorities: more important to film everything than to clean up their mess himself. Even when allegedly forced to do so by the flight attendant.

But now to the interesting part.
How much mess can you create and can be expected to be cleaned up by service staff?

If FA should be expected to clean up popcorn spilled by a 2 year old, are they also supposed to clean it up if an adult spills? What if an adult intentionally throws popcorn on the floor? What if the whole airplane intentionally throws popcorn on the floor?

What if a passenger throws up due to air sickness. 'Not their fault, so the airline crew has to clean it up' you might say. But what if the passenger knows they get air sick, and was ill prepared?

What if I order the chicken for dinner and just smear it on the seat in front of me? If a 2 year old would do it by accident and the parents don't have to clean it up, why can't I do it intentionally? Especially if I paid more for my ticket than the 2 year old did for theirs. After all, on the aircraft everything revolves around money.

My first instinct would be that it's good that a company is drawing a line as to what is acceptable and what is not. I have never left a mess on an airplane or in a movie theater. I don't get why people can't do some basic cleaning up and dump their trash in trash cans. I have a feeling it's the same people that don't return shopping carts to the appropriate spot in the super market parking lot, or litter on a public bench in the park.
I snagged gasper vents on a C208 caravan once and maintenance found chicken bones stuffed into them.

People are such slobs these days. Look at the mess they make in airport washrooms. I worked with an FA once who said a passenger tried handing her a baby and asking her to change the diaper!

Perhaps. But honestly, not as far as I can remember. Knowing my mom, I'm pretty sure she would have cleaned everything up, or more likely, made me clean it up. It's really not that hard as an adult to be somewhat tidy. And as a young kid with parents sitting next to them, it shouldn't be impossible either to limit the spilling.

Most people on airplanes don't leave a mess though. I'd say there's one messy person every 2 or 3 rows, based on what I've seen travelling in the back.

I guess you were flying in the more Northern parts of the country?

At one of the companies I used to work, a flight crew once had to remove human excrement from a seat. But at least the passenger pooped on a newspaper. So that was considerate.

I have had the pleasure to seal up a puked cloth seat with garbage bags and a couple of liters of dish soap. Fun times.

Everyone here is the most perfect customer ever.

What I learned today.
Not a perfect customer, but certainly not a slob and I refused to raise my kids that way. Did my kids drop a french fry on the floor on occasion? Yes, but they usually made life easier for servers, FA's by collecting their trash in one place, sometimes stacking their plates, etc. It's a basic courtesy.

TBH, I'm surprised you're tacitly defending slobbery. I figured you'd be the guy calling out the entitled habit of making life difficult for the help.

I have no idea what happened on that flight (and neither do you) but I have seen parents who raise their children to be respectful of public places and I have seen parents who raise their kids to be trash (no pun intended:)

Thats right.

I can have compassion for both sides. Pregnant, maybe sick with 2 youngsters? (He wasn’t on the flight)

I’ve seen respectful passengers (most) and a few slobs.

I’ve seen friendly FA’s (almost all) but a few real pieces of work, too.

Depends how the communication happened. A few FA’s I’ve seen make things worse not better.

I cannot stand self important attitude, entry level service staff.

Of course this is the same company that beat the sh— out of a doctor for resisting getting kicked off a plane because of their screw up.
I can't stand your self important attitude. I do wipe down the lav after I use it, and I clean up after myself if I make a mess at my seat. I also return my shopping cart whether I had to put money in it or not.

I think context is important. A 22-week pregnant woman travelling alone with a 5 and 2 yr old is a tall order. I don't think it's anymore unreasonable for her to ask for help cleaning up then an elderly or disabled person asking for assistance.

Notice there is zero compassion for that fact here?

Not that I’m that surprised.

The captain ORDERED her to do it, supposedly.

“As you know, (Sydney Rae Bass) is five months pregnant, high risk, and also traveling alone with two small children,” Decker posted. “Blaire accidentally spilled popcorn in the aisle, and the flight attendant came up to Sydney with a trash bag, and a wet wipe, telling her the captain wants Syd to clean up every drop.”

She added that her sister was completely humiliated and exhausted.”

The story doesn't add up. If you had a high risk pregnancy, would you fly?

When is the captain ever involved in a passenger clean up discussion on the ground with the doors open? Seems very unlikely.

Why are they talking about wet wipes and drops when cleaning up popcorn?

Bahahahah Rookie thinks the flight crew gets involved when passengers make a mess in the back. Yet another instance of Rookie opening his mouth and giving opinions on matters he doesn't understand. Right on brand.

You're missing the fact that she is 5-months pregnant travelling alone with two young kids ages 2 and 5. I don't think this is a case of 'I don't want to clean up' more than a case of needing assistance. It may seem trivial, but mobility is not exactly easy when a woman is pregnant and it's challenging doing even small tasks when single-parenting young children.

Big deal. She's only 22 weeks pregnant. My wife was doing house reno's with a baby tied to her back.

They do here.

Defend likely stoned and drunk flight crew -- on some of these threads --- yes, indirectly, and no, I'm not debating it, I can put 2 and 2 together - --and lay into pregnant women travelling with 2 little kids as the worst example of humankind.

No, not a good look.

And I hate to break it to you, but there are a few FA's that just aren't very nice in how they communicate.

My favorite was the one who woke up the guy in the row behind me, whose mask slipped 1 inch while he was sleeping, and threatened to have him arrested.

Depending on the country, flight attendants can work until they are 27 or 32 weeks pregnant.

What if the FA from the article was pregnant as well? Would that have changed anything?

Pregnant groomers likely work at least till that date as well, quite possibly longer.

Also, does anyone here think the pregnancy was a real factor in the exchange? Or an excuse added later to make one side look better/worse?

I have a suspicion the FA didn't even know the passenger was pregnant.

I ran it by my wife before posting. She approves :)

Reminds me of my cousin. She's an obstetrician. When she was pregnant, she'd have pregnant women come in asking for a doctor's note to get off work because they were pregnant. "So, am I," she'd reply, "next."
