CT-114 Tutor at 52
The CT-114 Tutor turns 52 years old this year.
So what aircraft will the Snowbirds replace it with?

The Harvard II's would probably make for an equally graceful and impressive show, but I would miss the Tutors.

This one was built as a result of rumours going around in 2009 about the demise of the Snowbirds. It was the start of a long "Silly Week" story line on one of the model sites

The Harvard twos (as well as the Hawks) are not owned by the RCAF. They are leased from Bombardier Aerospace Defence Services for the NFTC program, so I don't think that the RCAF could use them to replace the Snowbirds.AirFrame wrote:The Harvard II's would probably make for an equally graceful and impressive show, but I would miss the Tutors.

Is there any reason they couldn't buy 20 or so of them, which wouldn't apply to any other airframe?linecrew wrote: The Harvard twos (as well as the Hawks) are not owned by the RCAF. no sig because apparently quoting people in context is offensive to them.

Reminds me of the paint scheme I put together for an RV one time... I still think someone should do this.Old Dog Flying wrote:This one was built as a result of rumours going around in 2009 about the demise of the Snowbirds. Probably not but me thinks that it might be a hard sell trying to convince the powers-that-be to purchase a fleet of aircraft just for airshows but you never know.grimey wrote:Is there any reason they couldn't buy 20 or so of them, which wouldn't apply to any other airframe?linecrew wrote: The Harvard twos (as well as the Hawks) are not owned by the RCAF. Barney (Old Dog Flying) remembers when my plane FUBC looked like this:

She’s built like a Steakhouse, but she handles like a Bistro.
Let's kick the tires, and light the fires.... SHIT! FIRE! EMERGENCY CHECKLIST!

And for the Centennaires. Nobody has done the Snowbirds yet though (at least, not that i'm aware).

Probably because the 431 Sqn holds the rights to all things related to the Snowbirds and would likely want royalties for the use of anything even close to the markings of the team. We had a big set to over producing decals for RCAF/CAF models and fortunately the idea of the military collecting royalties was laid to rest...after a letter to the PM at the time explained the situation. The old adage schitt flows downhill faster than you can shovel it uphill worked wonders.

Don't they hold the rights to the Golden Hawks and Centennaires, too? Not that it would surprise me that someone in government/military would think "hey, we can make some money off this..."Old Dog Flying wrote:Probably because the 431 Sqn holds the rights to all things related to the Snowbirds and would likely want royalties for the use of anything even close to the markings of the team.
Come to think of it, I wonder if you could paint a small aircraft with current RCMP markings and get away with it...
