Global news is reporting a cessna down on the hiway just outside of Osoyoos. Hiway 97 closed in both directions, they had a quick camera shot of a pretty significant fire.
Photos dont look so good, tail doesn't look like a cessna, not much else left.
Turns out it is a friend of mine-was able to get himself (only occupant) out of the burning Bonanza, but airlifted to Vancouver VGH ICU now.
I have flown with him, and would fly again with him...careful, competent, and keeps his airplane (as well as his cars, boats, etc) in tip top mechanical condition.
I'll be very interested to learn what happened. Bit of a gut shot.
The Beechcraft A36, C-GPDK, S/N 1728, had departed Oliver, BC for Boundary Bay, BC and was
in the vicinity of Osoyoos, BC when the pilot made an emergency landing on Highway 97. The
aircraft struck a truck and a power pole and came to rest on the edge of the road. A fire consumed
most of the aircraft, but the pilot escaped with serious burns.
