Information on new hire salary, base, types to expect.
Hello all!
Have recently been hired by Air Canada as a pilot, no course date yet. I would like to get some feedback from other who have been recently hired, or even pilots who have been with AC a while on a few working conditions.
What are they currently hiring as far as base, types, rouge or AC...
I understand its fixed salary...how many years is that for? Can any recent hires give me a rough idea what the actual take home will be at the end of the day with perdiems etc. How long is the training? Is it at normal salary.
Feel free to PM if you want.
Thanks in advance for all your help.
Cheers and happy new year.

Really? Those are all things guaranteed to be covered by HR in the interview.

Im OTS and my interview was 1.5 years ago, before the new CBA. I've asked the recruiters, but they haven't gotten back to me yet...holidays.

Rates are hourly approx $55/65/75/90 year 1/2/3/4 no matter what type you are F/O it RP. If you go captain in your first four though you get formula for whatever.
You also have guaranteed minimum monthly in your first four so if you have a low productivity month you are somewhat covered... I'd have to read that part of the contract to be specific, not sure the exact details...
Positions is variable course to course depending on what the training department is prioritizing at the time... RP 767/787/330 FO EMJ/320/767 Rouge FO 320/767 are all likelihoods... YYZ/YUL are both open I think.
Good luck.

The actual pay rates based on starting today would be closer to 55/61/71/82 for the flat hourly pay.

True, but by the time a new hire makes it to year 4 flat pay (in 2020), numbers will end up looking like those posted by altiplano when compounding the 2% annual increase...ZBBYLW wrote:The actual pay rates based on starting today would be closer to 55/61/71/82 for the flat hourly pay.

Is it normal to get a job offer with no course date?

Yeah I was just working from rough memory... Also though you can count on:ZBBYLW wrote:The actual pay rates based on starting today would be closer to 55/61/71/82 for the flat hourly pay.
Add 2% increase every year to base pay.
Add 2% lump payment of your annual pay this year and next.
Add 5% of your salary if you participate at max in ESOP. (10% salary @50% match)
Per diem will vary with the flying/fleet you get on... Overseas adds up quick depending on the destination - up to a few hundred a day. Domestic now pays instead of feeds while flying so that's an increase too. You'll get other allowances too - transport for every time you go to work, check in for every layover, cleaning, shoe, passport and others all add up. I easily average over $1000 every month.
Training is a 2 week initial course + roughly 6-8 for your sim/line training. You are paid. Can't explain the formula off hand though for training pay but it will equate to roughly a full flying month or better in some cases. You do have the guaranteed minimum monthly that applies if it's slow though.

Congrats!
Also you get a DC pension where AC matches your contribution up to 6%. After year 2 there is a supplemental plan where AC increases their contributions. After year 5 they are giving you 10.5% on top of your 6% contribution.
We also have a profit sharing plan but don't count on that!
YUL, YYZ and YVR are open bases for new hires.
As for equipment it depends on your individual preferences. If you want to see the world and don't mind sitting in the jump seat for takeoff and landings then a RP job is great.
If possible I would avoid a position that is being phased out though. EMJ, B767 and even the A320 are being replaced. I would highly recommend rouge A319 though as there is no reserve and good flying.
Enjoy your course!
