Commuting
How does it work as a commuter if you get bumped off all the flights, and simply can't get to work? Is there a policy to protect you if this happens? Also, can you commute the same day as your pairing starts?
Thanks
Thanks
Re: Commuting
AC does not have a commuting policy. Commuting on the same day is done at the pilots peril.
Re: Commuting
Ya. After they screwed their pilots by closing the port system (after encouraging them to move their families) they kind of had to do something.
I guess it's how you look at it.

Re: Commuting
As mentioned above, I do not believe Air Canada has a commuting policy. Therefore, it does not matter if you were bumped off flights, you are considered to not have made it to work. I don't know what the exact consequences of that would be, but there are situations even when not commuting where this may happen (car breaks down, really bad traffic etc.).
Some other airlines do have a commuting policy. i.e. you need to give yourself two flights to make it to your home base and the latter of these flights has to arrive at base a certain time prior to the start of your pairing. Each policy is different, but generally speaking you need to let crew sched know if you don't make your first flight and they can then look at their options regarding your second flight.
Lots of AC pilots do commute though. So presumably they have enough of a buffer and a back up plan to make it work. At the end of the day though, you may be paying full fare for a flight to make sure you get to work.
Any AC pilots able to add their specific back up plans?

Re: Commuting
Jazz has had one since about 2003-2004ish (small token CCAA tradeoff for getting dry fisted) so it clearly isn't an ACPA membership priority nor does it need to be if that's what there membership wants.
