Re: YYZ-DOH
I really thought this was going to be someone asking about Date of Hire for Toronto base.
Too many aviation acronyms I guess...

It's the sound all the WestJet pilots are making... "Swoop? YYZ? DOO-Oh!"'97 Tercel wrote: ↑Tue Oct 27, 2020 12:08 pm I thought it was going to be a Homer Simpson reference..

Re: YYZ-DOH
AC is chasing revenue wherever it can find it, and right now, it’s all about leisure and VFR routes. They seem to be going after Canada to South Asia demand, which is at its peak Oct to March. Hence the quick start date. Canada-Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, etc.
They’re interlining with QR (no codeshare yet). Flights are well timed for onward connections with QR. Same thing for the return.
Due to the travel bubble agreement between India/Canada and India/Qatar, AC/QR won’t be able to sell YYZ-DOH-India though, just like QR can’t sell YUL-DOH-India at the moment either.
Interesting to see AC shift it’s focus away from its star partners in Europe. They’re adapting and doing what they need to in order to generate revenue.
No press release on this, which I find interesting. Maybe they are waiting to announce closer cooperation with QR.

I suspect cargo is also a big motivator for this flight. Available seats have been capped so I suspect some allowance for extra cargo payload given the range of the flight.

Re: YYZ-DOH
Not entirely surprising as there had been speculation of this possibility.
