King Air SIC time

Post by powerbrian »

Canadian 604 Private Operator. Northern operations. King Air 100. 2 crew operation. ( I believe its for insurance) Auto pilot installed.
How is this flight time logged? Can both crewmembers. Only 1?

I'm looking at applying for this gig but it doesn't seem to make a lot of sense if I cant log it...

Does anyone have any reference for this? Any info. This has been beat over the head in FAA forums. I wasn't sure if it was any different in Canada.

Thanks.

Brian.

I believe that if it’s operated as a two crew aircraft, then you would log it as copilot time. Different log books may call it something else but that’s what mine has.

What do you want to log it for? It all depends if the person looking at the log sees value in it.

As an AvCanada discussion grows longer:
-the probability of 'entitlement' being mentioned, approaches 1
-one will be accused of using bad airmanship

I guess my question is ; is logging it as dual or sic time legal in transport Canada’s eyes?

If I’m building towards the 1500 atpl does it count towards total time?

The aircraft is operated 2 crew however its licensed as single pilot …

As far as I’m aware, as long as it states in the AOC that the aircraft is required to be 2 crew even if it is a single pilot AC then you can log it as SIC. I flew a king air for a 703 (not sure of things are different in 604) and was SIC, I just got a letter from the ops manager stating that the aircraft is operated 2 crew as per our AOC and submitted that with my ATPL application.

Same for me, flying a PC-12. I got a letter from the Chief Pilot stating that the aircraft was required to operate with 2 crew and it listed my times on the aircraft for the purposes of getting my ATPL.

Exactly as said so far. If it's required to be operated as 2 crew, then you have 2 pilots, and they can choose who is (and logs) PIC and SIC for any particular leg unless one is specifically an FO.
