I don't condone it, but I don't entirely blame them either.

Re: Party time on Sunwing!
Sunwing had already said they won’t accept them back on board for their return flight. Now they’re trying to come home on Air Transat, and Transat is refusing to take them home as well.
I say good on both companies for actually holding the line on this type of behaviour! Hopefully AC and WJ do the same and these “influencers” will actually feel the sting of their poor decisions.

AC just said they will too.
Lifetime ban, I say.
I don't want them on my next flight.

Not to lay blame on any of the crew but if it was so out of control why did they not turn around or divert somewhere enroute and let the cops deal with it?

Re: Party time on Sunwing!
Because during a mass-unruly passenger event, diverting could cause an already precarious situation to spiral further out of control. Better to just let it play out and as long as flight safety isn’t being jeopardized (damage to aircraft, attempting to enter the flight deck, assaulting cabin crew, etc), just continue to destination.
Re: Party time on Sunwing!
Because they wanted their CUN layover...
I don't know, maybe this wasn't a problem until the party videos dropped on social media and the court of public opinion got stoked up... it was almost a week ago and we're only hearing about it now.

How do you know for sure the FA’s weren’t a part of it for awhile?
Re: Party time on Sunwing!
They must all be dead by now or in the ICU with the super duper deadly omicron variant? Oh wait.....

Re: Party time on Sunwing!
I’m just curious how people are literally vaping on board, drinking their own alcohol, etc and as pilots you’re defending their actions?
Regardless of your opinion on COVID, masks, vaccines, etc these “influencers” were most likely not listening to the cabin crew’s instructions at best and were openly vaping on board among other things.
For a pilot-focused web board to be siding with a bunch of narcissistic web influencers and instead armchair quarterbacking the crew’s decisions just baffles me.
If COVID didn’t exist, would that make their actions more acceptable?

Re: Party time on Sunwing!
Lol, oh no! Kids drinking and having a good time?! Mon dieu! What exactly did this dork think they were going to do when they got to Cancun? Masked up Bible study 6 feet apart? Besides, they would have all had to be vaccinated to be there in the first place so who are they possibly hurting from a covid standpoint? Some rich kids chartered a plane to go party and have a good time. Yes, they got a little cheeky and broke some rules. No, they shouldn't have done that. But it's hardly worth getting your panties in a bunch and it certainly doesn't warrant being marooned in a foreign country.“I have asked Transport Canada to investigate the matter,” Alghabra wrote in a post on Twitter. “We must take the risks of COVID seriously!”
Re: Party time on Sunwing!
People seem more worked up over this than all the elderly who died in Quebec’s old age homes (not that I’m condoning what they did).

Re: Party time on Sunwing!
Not defending it but it was a charter to a party destination. They knew the rules but chose to break them. Quebec is currently under martial law and people are at their saturation point with Covid rules so it can be expected.
I was just on an Air Canada deadhead and the amount of jibberish those poor flight attendants have to say is astounding. People are starting to tune it out. Not saying what they did was ok, but it was not surprising.

I'm glad only few people like you exist. This world would a boring place if everyone was like you.
Re: Party time on Sunwing!
A few? The vast majority of Canadians agree with said carrier sentiment.

If I was the Capt of this flight they would all be in a Texas jail right now.
Re: Party time on Sunwing!
Allegedly one of the passengers is a pilot in training. Good luck ever working in the industry now...

Re: Party time on Sunwing!
Agreed. Had this little private soirée not made the rounds on FB/Twitter/Snapchat/TikTok or wherever it probably wasn’t gonna be a problem. We all hear of airliners having to duck into YYR/YQX/YYT/YHZ etc coming/going across the ocean to toss off an unruly dude/dudess who consumed to much of the drink. On this Sunwing caper with the dance moves/bottle passing/vaping , one has to wonder why there wasn’t an immediate descent, present position direct to some spot to heave’em all overboard. A week after the fact this a big issue - my arse.

Re: Party time on Sunwing!
The rules while on board were explained to them by the FA's yet they chose to completely ignore them. They are all adults, with choices come consequences....
Sympathy for the FA's very high, for the passengers, zero...

Re: Party time on Sunwing!
I think there’s more to this story. Obviously nothing was said till it exploded on social media. If the FAs had lost control, the pilots would have stopped short. They didn’t and it took 4-5 days for this to come out.

Re: Party time on Sunwing!
I’m sorry. I’m not using the pandemic as an excuse for these people to act the way they did. There are certain ways to act on an airplane, and THIS is not one of them. If this was a regularly scheduled flight and someone was vaping, that would be squashed almost immediately by the cabin crew. Trying to enforce the rules when 150 people are together in one big group? No way. The cabin crew lost control of the cabin and that is a safety issue, no matter how you look at it. The only decision they had was whether or not to divert, which could have made things worse if they passengers became angry.northernpilot2 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 05, 2022 5:56 pm![]()

I’ll ask again, and I hope you will not shy away from answering this question, because this is what it comes down to: Would this behaviour be acceptable if COVID never existed and this was a normal group charter flight? Would this behaviour be acceptable on a regularly scheduled flight?
I don’t think so. Look outside of your narrow view of “They’re just letting loose after 2 years of restrictions” and a stop using COVID as an excuse for people behaving badly. They’re adults and they’re now feeling the effect of their poor choices. If they got away with this with no repercussions, it’ll just show the travelling public that air-travel is a free-for-all where anything goes, and I hope that’s not what you want.

Re: Party time on Sunwing!
Not always true. I know of 2 other private charter flights on 737-sized aircraft (not with Sunwing) where the cabin crew lost control of the cabin. In both instances, it was felt it was safer to continue to destination as diverting would likely lead to hostility from the passengers.
The F/A’s essentially hid in the galley for the remainder of the flight and let the party continue. 4 girls vs 150+ drunk passengers and I think you know how that’ll turn out.
The funny thing was that in both of the instances I mentioned, there were strict terms given to the passengers for the return journey (no alcohol on board, etc), they actually signed the terms and the trip home was uneventful. It seems these kids felt they didn’t have to agree to the terms and could just hop the next flight home with someone else. I guess they guessed wrong.

Re: Party time on Sunwing!
Turns out the one that was vaping on the videos is the pilot finishing up her CPL (Vanessa Cosi), as per the local newspaper.
