There is simply no choice, operational reliability takes precedents. A recession will be a cakewalk compared to what the airline industry went through last 2 years. Yes some companies will not make it through but that’s always happened in cycles.

Fair enough.

My concern is as follows :

Introduction of further mandates in the fall
Consumer fear
Ongoing COVID restrictions
An industry that is still spooling up

On top of :

Skyrocketing fuel costs ( which impact just about everything not only fuel)
Supply chain issues
Inflation / a financially overt extended population base
Labor shortages
Narrow profit margins
Airlines that are already on shaky financial ground.

Historically speaking, 1-2 of these issues would be bad news …

More mandates this fall? I sure hope so! Hospitals are already full! I’m going to put an order in for a box of masks before they sell out in a panic in September.

Economics 101 if you have more passengers than you can handle flying, you aren’t charging enough for your tickets. Domestic fares should go up 50 percent and let the inflation burn like everything else the consumers are buying. YVR to YYZ round trip should be a 1200 dollar fare.

You can only increase prices if you reduce supply, which is happening. Increasing prices with the current number of flights wouldn't make economic sense, because planes would be flying half full. Generally more planes and lower prices means greater overall profit, although if you don't have the staff to handle those flights...

Anyway, I'm sure that WJ and AC have a better idea of how to extract maximum profit from their aircraft than random avcanada posters.

As I see it, employers in every industry, including aviation, are faced with the dilemma of "How do I increase wages in order to attract new employees, without having to give a raise to virtually every other employee who is already on the property?"

Yes
IRROPS. When things run 4+ hours behind, the airline cannot keep 50% RSV coverage for pilots and FA’s so things fall apart. Why are things running 4 hours late? Cascading delays that may or may not have to do with ground staff, gating, GDP, or customs protocols.

Chicken and the egg.

Introduction of further mandates in the fall - Covid is over

Ongoing COVID restrictions - You already mentioned that, stop trying to make things seem worse

On top of :

Skyrocketing fuel costs ( which impact just about everything not only fuel) - It's starting down
Supply chain issues - There are no issues
Inflation / a financially overt extended population base - Inflation is leveling off, and people have more money than ever before
Labor shortages - With more immigrants, this will be solved soon
Narrow profit margins - Always been the case. In North America they are not so narrow
Airlines that are already on shaky financial ground.

Historically speaking, 1-2 of these issues would be bad news …

You hope for more mandates??
Do you not see how destructive they are?
There should never have been a single day of lockdown.
I guess my body my choice does not apply to a cold

They were the biggest beneficiaries of Covid. The boomers are all voting liberal because they don’t give a @#$! about the future. They want their home values to spike, lots of them have jobs where they work from home. They would love more lockdowns because they have so much to gain. Just like all public servants they love it too.

Science says they will benefit the most therefore we need more Lockdowns

You need a source for home values increasing? You need a source that older generations own more properties and wealth than younger generations?

In fairness, I think the airlines know exactly what is coming soon, and don’t want to hire in front of it.

Think I’ll just leave it there to your own imaginations.
