Hatchet Lake

Who bases their otter out of the lodge? Had a prop strike on the dock and curious of who owns it.

What's the rest of this story? Had a propstrike, and now it's tied up waiting for an engine swap? Or did it fly away? What did you see?

I've always considered the prop sticking way out in front of the floats on the Turbo-Otter to be a major drawback.

I would imagine waiting for repairs, or would hope so.

I never struck a prop either, but it was always in the back of my mind as a possible "really bad day". Wind's blowing offshore, you're on the back of the float and the cleat rips out of the dock or you simply miss, the prop is windmilling in latch and the tail is getting blown back out to sea as the nose rotates and starts heading towards the dock. Run back up to the cockpit and hope you can fire up in time to back off; or jump in the water and push. I'm pretty sure I've seen those things happen once or twice.

I never saw a prop strike happen, but I was always aware that it COULD happen.
