How was in the past

Anyone remembers the TT hrs required for the likes of Jazz/Encore/Porter?

How about AC/WJ?

This is for the lates 00's (2009, 2010)

Bonus, were fresh CPL's able to find instructor jobs with 200-220 hrs?

I started at Jazz in 2014 and had about 3000 hours total time, the majority of that in PC-12 and SA-227 aircraft. My class of 8 all had around the same experience, all had some turbine and most had northern/medevac/charter PIC time. The one exception was one of the 7 was a cadet who came from one of the colleges.

It took 6 years from my first flying job to make it to Jazz (2008-2009 Instructing, 2009-2012 PC-12 Medevac, 2012-2014 SA-227 scheduled airline then Jazz). It's amazing how little experience is necessary these days to be competitive.

500MPIC required by Thunder to get an FO Moo2 job in 2009

The standard for an FO job on a turboprop was 1500 TT and 500 MPIC.

When I was at Jazz, you needed at least some multi turbine PIC on a king air to get hired. This was '00.

The good old days. I started at Jazz in 2006 with over 3000 total time and almost 1000 multi turbine PIC. Wasted almost 8 years there. Never had the seniority to upgrade even on the Dash. Best year made maybe $75k.

WJ minimum in 96 was 5000hrs.

I applied to Jazz in the late 00's as a 704 multi-turbine Capt with 5000 hours. There was no response.

It’s good to get perspective.

Instructed 2005-07
Medevac pc-12 2007-08 (1100-1700 hrs)
704 Metro 2008-2011 (1700-4600 hrs)
AC 2011 (4600hrs)

Times are good right now. Remember that.

In the early 2000s you needed 10+ years to hold left seat in YYZ at Jazz and nearly 20 for YVR. :rolleyes:

Similar story here.

I started applying at Jazz in about 2004 with only Navajo time and I kept applying until about 2010 with over 5000 hrs and 3000 hrs of large multi turbine PIC.

They never did call...

Even today it's amazing how one can turn down those once coveted jobs. Human nature is intriguing. A lot of jobs have the annoying characteristic that once you qualify for them, they lose their appeal...

Mid 90s was brutal. Wings magazine had ads for Bearskin FO jobs. 3500tt with 1500 multi. Jazz didn't even exist and Air Ontario was impossible to get into. The first guy from our graduating Aviation college class to get into AC had 5000tt with jet pic. My instructor course had six students. Top two got instructing jobs.
In America it was worse. All sorts of pay to fly schemes. Murray aviation turbo props had right seaters paying $60 per flight hour to log the time while the real copilot unloaded skids of auto parts. It is quite amazing how it has changed. Although back then you could buy a brand new house flying an Air Georgian caravan.
These companies have totally reaped what they sowed. They pushed people away from the industry creating a massive shortage. Serves them right!

Jazz was a very different company 10 years ago. People went there looking for it to be their careers.

Between 2005-2008 ish, You probably weren't becoming a 703 captain with less than 4000 hours and a 704 captain with less than 5000 hours back then. I remember people leaving my first company to go to Jazz. They had 7000 hours give or take.

Mid 90’s when I started to get a left seat in a Navajo was 3000-4000hrs, a King Air was 8000-9000hrs and any jet you pretty much needed Space Shuttle time. It’s much easier to break in now.
