Any place in Canada with little to no waiting list for instructor rating?
Hey everyone,
I think I have called most flight schools in Canada, and couldn't find one that has any opening for an instructor rating. Most are looking into 2026.
Anyone knows of a school the has a place for instructor rating student on accelerated basis only? (I can't afford to move anywhere for 6 month because some class 1 instructor decided to take way too many students)
P.S. I got to admit it is scary to see that backlog, as I doubt so many instructor can find a job, Even though, admittedly, my starting point is way better than others, 500+ hours (enough to train multi and IFR, minus the hours on the specific type if it's different than mine, and about 10-15 years experience of in-class instruction in other fields, including 1-1, but it still scary.

Yeah it is hard to find an instructor job because no one is moving on. Try the St. Catharines flying club with Chris Jones. Great Class 1 instructor and I didn’t have to wait to renew mine.aviran9111 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 22, 2025 3:12 pm Hey everyone,

I know I’m going to have a hard time finding an instructor position and I’m looking to be the career instructor where I want to settle into a position permanently.
Good luck , try the St . Catharines club in Ontario and Chris Jones great guy.

Many schools will prioritize instructor training for students who have done CPL/PPL, etc at the school. That way they know them and are prepared to hire them as instructors. This is especially true if the school has a lack of class 1 instructors and can only train limited numbers of instructors.

So does this mean my best hope to get an instructor job in where I renewed mine and if they say no it looks bleak! Ouch!final28 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 24, 2025 12:12 pm Many schools will prioritize instructor training for students who have done CPL/PPL, etc at the school. That actually isn't the hardest part as some said they might have a position for me, since I have over 500 hours and 50 multi, along with my Group 1 IFR, I can do both multi and IFR instructor (might need 10 hours on type for multi if it's different than what I have mine on), and I have 100 hours simulated + 10 IMC, so they are interested, but the problem is - they want me to wait nearly a year on their list.Z28 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 24, 2025 9:31 amYeah it is hard to find an instructor job because no one is moving on. Don't fall for a dangling carrot. If they truly are interested in your above average experience, there's no reason they have to make you wait a full year. They control their waitlist. Be cautious, it might just be sales talk.aviran9111 wrote: ↑Sat Apr 26, 2025 11:29 amThat actually isn't the hardest part as some said they might have a position for me, since I have over 500 hours and 50 multi, along with my Group 1 IFR, I can do both multi and IFR instructor (might need 10 hours on type for multi if it's different than what I have mine on), and I have 100 hours simulated + 10 IMC, so they are interested, but the problem is - they want me to wait nearly a year on their list.Z28 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 24, 2025 9:31 amYeah it is hard to find an instructor job because no one is moving on. Did I said at least two of them wanted $500 deposit to be on the waitlist?digits_ wrote: ↑Sat Apr 26, 2025 12:32 pmDon't fall for a dangling carrot.
