Actually it is quite believable. Reminded me of my time south. Top Gear is an awesome show but taking British humour to the southern US was an incident waiting to happen.

The US doesn't have the monopoly on idiots:

Get the hooligans going in England by insulting their team and watch your blood getting spilled everywhere...
Go to an ultra-orthodox neighbourhood in Israel with a flag that says "Allah is the only god and Mahomet is his prophet"...
Inversely, go to a fanatic islamic neighbourhood in Palestine with a sign that says @#$! Allah and count the last seconds of your life...

We have ours too you know!

Write "I'm a separatist" on your Quebec-licenced car in some remote Albertan or Saskatchewan town and start praying...
Or, inversely again, go to Quebec City on June 23rd in the evening with a nice, big Canadian flag, start waving in the middle of the crowd and count back from 5...

Idiots are everywhere I tells ya! But true, Alabama hicks do seem to go the extra mile on making sure people don't mistake them for reasonable, intelligent people. Made for a great show though! :)

or, go to the General section on AvCanada and opine that in the interest of safety, pilots should speak a language that all other pilots understand on the VHF comm radio, and watch all the separatists come out of the woodwork

Or just have a an Ontario plate on your car and drive through southern Alberta.
Or live in Toronto and be from somewhere else.

That sounds like the old "Speak White".

Don't have to be a separatist to understand what you don't. All you need is to go for a little spin out of your backyard and see how things are done in the rest of the world.

You frenchies get your panties in a twist so easily ....

I couldn't give a flying f_ck at a donut what language is spoken on the comm radio in "la belle province", as long as it's one that EVERYONE UNDERSTANDS.

Hey, I have a great idea. Quite seriously, why don't you frenchies pass a law that FRENCH is the ONLY language that may legally be spoken on the radio in Quebec?

That way, anglos like me that don't speak a word of joual will know to officially stay the hell out of Quebec, and at least everyone will understand what's being said on the radio.

I'm quite willing to admit that I don't understand a word of French spoken on the comm radio, and I've had a couple of unpleasant experiences at uncontrolled airports in Quebec as a result of that, that didn't have to happen.

The same sort of retard that thinks it's ok to mix languages on the radio probably think's it's ok to turn off their transponder, too.

It's legal isn't it? Therefore, it must be safe?

Fly a Flag that 111,000 men in this country died under and watch the response.
Men that fought for GOD KING and COUNTRY under a flag of their Fathers .
It is shameful that the apologist's and appeasers want to ignore the blood rights of those gallent men with the treachery of a cowards politics.

Actually, technically the current Canadian (Liberal party) flag was created by Mike Pearson in the 1960's - I believe the events you are referring to (110,000 deaths) occured decades before then, when Canada had a different flag (ie the good one).
As an anglo Headly doesn't speak for me.
I never claimed you did.

Personally, I "get it". Quebec is "yours". It is NOT a part of Canada. Which is why I try very hard to never, ever drive through it ... with my Ontario plates, and no joual, I'd be roadkill for the Quebec cops, like this one:

Over the years, I have come to learn that you cannot expect much from airline pilots

Choosing to mix languages on the radio, which are not understood by all parties involved, is a voluntary decrease to the margin of safety, much like turning a transponder off is.

speaking of language, I had a nasty little problem the other day.

Got a clearance while airborne...from a Spanish controller...DCT to MyYah
Scramble, scramble...couldnt find. Asked for a vector. got the vector, then started looking for a Vor in that direction. Seems MyYah, in Spanish is spelled Mella. We were over mountains at the time.
When we discussed this with the ATC folks thay advised that most english speaking pilots get their clearance on the ground in writing.

Maybe it will come to that in Quebec.

Just ask for the controller for the phonitic spelling. Worked for me in Greece and Italy.

As for the quebecies, even the japs laugh at you - try saying Toyota MR2 in froggish!
