Gas Stations Open on Jan 1st
In your experiance are gas stations open on New Years day, Im making a drive back west I think they will be open in larger towns but just wondering about the smaller ones. Northern Manitoba to Alberta? any ideas or sites to check.

Depends who operares them, are there any non Christian owners of such business.
Maybe local by laws come into play.
Sorry no definite answer. but my guess is yes.
Mind I'm the one who drove the Stewart Cassiar on a Sun back in about 77 and nothing was open.

I know plenty of non-Christians that celebrate New Years.
Highway stations are normally open. In-town stations are a little more hit and miss.

Since when did New Years' become a traditional Christian holiday? Should've answered in a few hours, you could've got the first-dumb-post-of-2008 award.
Gas station openings are purely market driven. There are a few local bylaws, such as Richmond, B.C., where no self serve stations are permitted. I'm not aware of any town that forces openings. If you are staying on the Trans-Canada you should have no problems finding fuel. Just start looking when your fuel tank is down to half full and don't be too choosey about price.
Have a good trip.

Mission acomplished!!! most of the small towns gas stations where closed. Didnt matter I get good KM/L could always find one open anyway roads were shit between YTH and about P.A.
Thompson to Calgary three stops for gas Flin flon/Prince Albert/Kindersly made it in 14 1/2 hours started at 8am YTH time rolled into YYC 930 MT.
