705 SIC vs. 704 PIC

Post by Beech Boy »

Hi!

I am currently building PIC time in a 704 operation greater than 12,500lbs with about 1300 turbine PIC. (not all of the TPIC time is greater than 12500lbs) I have always valued PIC time as "golden time". However, I am lacking the 705 glass time that I understand Westjet likes to see. I am considering a move to a first officer position to gain 705 glass cockpit experience. On one hand it seems like a down grade, but on the other hand it seems like this is the last thing that I need to complete my resume to score a few more points on the matrix to be considered.

Any advice would be greatly appreaciated! Thanks!

IMHO, the heavy PIC is worth more than glass time. Keep logging the PIC. Dave would know better what would matter to WJ though, but I'm thinking that if you only have 1300 hrs on it, get more. Glass time is good, but Multi heavy PIC is golden, as you say.

Also don't mean to speak for Dave at all, but does your current position involve sim time? Solid SOP's? Would the other position?

Glass in and of itself I don't think is that big a deal, but some of the other factors that sometimes go along with it may help out.
