Montreal Canadiens Fans
I understand Passion for the game and booing the other team and cheering for your team, however I get the feeling that Fans in Montreal take it too far. Back when the US invaded Iraq I recall boo's in Vancouver and a few other Canadian city's, Don Cherry rightfully scolded the Nation for this behavior. The following night when the US anthem played there was a little tension, fortunately cooler heads prevailed for what I can attribute to a collective embarrassment for the previous nights crowd. Instead of wasting negative energy on booing another country Cheer a little louder for "O Canada" to compensate and of course "creative" ways to jeer the other team. This being said there has always been anti American sentiment just under the surface here in Canada, however it takes some extraordinary event to boil the pot over. I cannot figure out why year after year and even with a "popular" US government and really not much to complain about on a political level Montreal Canadiens fans continue this uncalled for disrespect, Passion for the Game and pride of country is one thing but grow up and show some class!

Re: Montreal Canadiens Fans
I think we all have to realize that Montreal fans are like no other fans, especially the ones that attend the Bell Centre. First of all, there's a lot of French. Second of all, it's the only arena in the NHL that opens at noon and starts serving beer. Most of the crowd is absolutely tanked before the game even starts. They don't just boo the other team or the other anthem... they'll boo their own team and well, never heard them boo their own anthem, but I wouldn't put it past them. They booed Patrick Roy right off the franchise.
Hey .., are you sure you're not thinking of when the Ducks booed the Canadian anthem in Anaheim and Cherry scolded the yanks for it. The Ducks then came to Edmonton where every Canuck in the arena cheered the Star Spangled Banner and sung along. I thought that was great.
Anyway, Habs fans are Habs fans and they won't change... a leopard never changes it's spots.

Twenty years from now you'll be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the things you did do.

It's unfair to single out Montreal. Same pathetic shit has happened in Toronto, Ottawa, Buffalo etc... I don't know why they continue to play both anthems.
Having said that...Go Bruins! Mr Gainey, this is called karma. That's what your organization gets for firing a winning coach in Claude Julien. Up next, Jersey Lou.

I managed to watch the last 10 minutes of the habs game yesterday, and I could have sworn they were booing their own team. Can't say I'm positive, though.

Re: Montreal Canadiens Fans
This is not uncommon in the Bell Centre and the Forum years ago... Habs fans are known for it. It's not like a once in awhile type of thing either... they boo their own team every time they're losing... pre-season, regular season, playoffs... it doesn't matter. They've actually booed players off their team including Roy and Brisebois... who's back now. You see, Montreal's selection in players is very picky... coach's too... the media and fans were nearly going to tear the city up because Gainey was talking of hiring an English speaking only coach. Briere was being pursued last year and he said he wouldn't play for them for one reason and one reason only... the fans and the media. It's the GREATEST hockey city of all time, but can be a real bitch to play for. It's the loudest arena in hockey... the greatest attendance record... it's simply the best... greatest history, all that shit. But, the fans and media are really tough... REALLY TOUGH.Four1oh wrote:I could have sworn they were booing their own team
