Just checking to see if anyone here expects to see any significant openings in places like Yellowknife, Whitehorse or the like this year. I know the ramp is probably backed up big time, but I'm talking about for guys who have a few years of flying under their belt. Places like Tindi or Arctic Sunwest are looking big enough to have some openings, but I really don't know the scene up there.
Yes I have done searches, and yes I am looking for current info, thank you!

Flying airplanes is easy, you just need to PAY ATTENTION. Finding a good job on the other hand takes experience, practice, and some serious talent.
Most of the places you mentioned as a rule don't hire high time people. They promote from with in. You want to fly for Air-Tindi or someone similar you start on the ramp and do your 3 years. Then when a pilot quits every one below him moves one rung up the ladder.
When it was really booming there were instances of them hiring pilots off the street because the FOs weren't FOs long enough to build time to take a Captain seat. But with almost no movement this past year or two you can bet the FOs will have more than enough time now and bringing in outsiders to a direct flying position, no matter how much time they have, only serves to upset the delicate balance.
Kevinsky 18, are you saying that all those higher time pilots who have been laid off have no hope of ever becoming employed again? What a crazy industry! Other industries recognise the value of experienced employees and welcome them. That is the basis for the "head hunter" type of recruiting agency. Aviation really is screwed up. How did it happen?
Yep, it's a srewed up industry. I was happy being a bush pilot for 16 years. Everyone told me to upgrade to ATPL. Got sucked into the 703/704 whoring industry where cps who know you don't have the decency to respond to an email..not even a PFO. Been a co-pilot on turbines for 2 years, but of course no mpic on anything. Now I'm sitting with a fancy license, but of course no bush operator will want an over qualified atpl now. I AM SCREWED!!!

lostlake,
why would a bush op refuse to hire an atpl qualified pilot ?
I don't understand : you still have tons of experience in the bush and an atpl shouldn't erase all your previous experience.
what is the mindset of a bush operator toward atpl'ed pilots from the Ifr world ?
wish you best of luck

A lot of operators assume that once you "move on", you are only taking a seasonal job as a "step backward" until you get the call from AC or WJ. Might just have to take a road trip (first one ever) and meet operators face to face and prove to them that I am a dyed in the wool bush rat. I'll make more in 6 months than I make in a year in a 704 operation, and yes have way more fun.

Agreed, I'm going to go back and find a spot in a beaver or something
There is tons of movement in the Maldives, at least at MAT. Mainly captains trying to get out of the shit show. F/o's need not apply. New hiring policy is nationals only.
Oh, and drinkers need not apply either.

Wow…what a difference a couple years can make! I did a 6 month tour there…liked it so much I did a second and a third. I really had a tough time making the decision to move on to other things. Guess I’m glad I left now, after hearing what's been going on there lately. I honestly had a blast for all 3 rotations.
It’s a shame.
