You keep enjoying your airport in the boonies Edmonton. What a farce! Heck now that gasp LRT runs to the airport in YVR you can get downtown to the terminal in YVR for $3.50 (going up to $8.00 soon) in roughly 22min. Faster than driving. Calgary is extending the LRT line to the airport (these things do take time).
Oh and for something completely different, does the comments section on CBC.ca piss anyone else off as much as it does me? People spouting off about stuff that they know nothing about. Kind of like some other forums on occasion.
Airport cab fare solution going to vote
Edmonton's taxi industry will vote on a proposal Wednesday that would mean customers would pay the same fare to and from the airport.
Airport Taxi charges a flat rate to take customers into the city from the Edmonton International Airport. The company has exclusive rights to pick up customers at the airport but they are not allowed to take passengers from Edmonton back to the airport.
Instead, customers rely on city cabs that charge a metered rate, which can differ from the flat rate.
Under the new proposal, city cab drivers taking customers to the airport will run the metre, but customers will pay the flat rate charged by Airport Taxi, if it is lower than the metered rate.
"There was a great deal of difficulty with people coming into the city and saying "Well, you know, I paid $56 to come into town and now you have to charge me $75 to go back out to the airport? What are you trying to do?'" said Leon Lubin, the city's vice-chair of the Vehicle for Hire Commission.
"It sounded like we were ripping people off and I think the reputation of the city was on the line. So we looked at the problem, we talked to the people and they agreed."
The commission will vote on the proposal on Wednesday. The change would then have to be approved by city council.
Calgary does have plans but they are focused on the West LRT line, which if you look at the site http://www.westlrt.ca/contentabout/history.cfm they originally studied it in 1983 and scheduled to start construction this year and complete in 2012. 29 years.
As for the Airport when your landing on 28 look down just before you cross barlow you can see the C-Train Yard it would only take a few more Kilometers to reach the Terminal, However I suspect they are waiting for the parallel runway to be completed (whenever that happens perhaps another 29 years and 3 hour EPLUR crossing delays.
200, what is it you're complaining about? The fact that a company is charging what it reasonably cost or where the airport is? I mean come on 75.00 for a vehicle to travel from the airport into town, then reposition back empty. Cost of wages, wear and tear on vehicle, loan or lease payments, overhead. I say good on them for trying to make money. Maybe I should start up a low cost carrier(taxi) charge 49.99 and bring down the cost for you. That way everyone can afford to get to the airport for their 99 dollar airfares to YVR.
If it's the location of the airport, well yah it is inconvienient. But at least there aren't a bunch of people protesting the noise after they've bought a house under the departure path

It is the location. The cost is what it is. As for people complaining about nose after they bought a hose close to an airport that has been there for ages longer than there house/apartment. IDGARA (I don't give a rats ass) and generally laugh at the noise complaints. So should politcos.
heck you can get to cyzf on a seat sale for 129$ from cyyc plus tax
oh ya the latest news the guy who first took charge of the edmonton aiports authorty ret general clemmons is now in charge of the fort macmurray airport

Its the passengers and last time I checked a A330 Cant land at YXD or Springbank...
Herein lies the problem with Canadian airports. Can be palacial installations, but poor public transit links to the cities they are meant to serve. I don't buy the B.S. excuse that Vancouver has just installed the Skytrain link either-- it is already two decades late! Duh!

Its not just taxi's Sky Shuttle is an awesome van service, 15 bucks 1 way. Now the City of Edmonton says they need to be inspeced and licenced by the city. Never mind that the vans are already certified by the Provience
Just for the record, Clemmons was not the "first" in charge of EAA.
Gilbertson was the first and set the mode for total non-communicative disaster.
Public transit to both Edmonton and Calgary airports is way overdue. Namao was a better choice, with the LRT only a few kilometers away across undeveloped land at that time.
But, THEY knew best. Actually, they knew sweet F-A. And the mayor of the time was a dumb-ass with her own agenda.
