Looting Teens in Aylmer Kill Good Samaritan

Post by straightpilot »

Sound familiar?
AYLMER, Que. — As family members, friends, military brass and soccer buddies gathered in Aylmer on Wednesday for the funeral mass for Paul Hines, the 19-year-old Pontiac man originally charged with assaulting him was arrested on an upgraded charge of manslaughter.

An overflow crowd at St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church paid tribute to the 57-year-old Aylmer man who died doing the right thing.

Hines, a retired public servant with National Defence, died after he was badly beaten in an altercation last month outside an Aylmer grocery store.

Hines had witnessed two young men stealing a pumpkin from an outdoor display and told them to return it. Hines suffered serious injuries in the altercation and was in a coma before he died about a week later.
There is something seriously wrong in this country, that teenagers routinely kill people who tell them not to misbehave.

And then the teenagers are only charged with manslaughter?! You kill someone in Canada while committing a crime, all you get is a few years in jail.

Something is horribly wrong.

I guess it's going to have to happen a few times a week or something before some people consider it a "real" issue.

It's probably the correct charge in Canadian law. It would be fairly difficult to prove an intent to kill in this case, which would be required for a murder charge.

You can still get life for manslaughter, it's just not the mandatory sentence.

no sig because apparently quoting people in context is offensive to them.

I thought that manslaughter used to be for semi-accidental things (such as hitting a pedestrian while driving recklessly).

This should be second-degree murder - deliberately killing someone (if you beat someone up so badly that they die, you can't say that it was an accident: "I swear, your honour, I had no idea that punching someone in the head repeatedly could injure, let alone kill someone!"

First degree murder would be for any murder that was planned - including all shootings and stabbings where the victim had no weapon.

Time for mandatory minimum sentences and hard labor - maybe we could get some roads built.

I am amazed that a murder committed during a crime is "no big deal" in Canada.

Imagine the fuss if a policeman, or lawyer, or politician had been killed, instead of some poor, unimportant citizen. Different application of the law for the elites and the ordinary people.

Don't worry guys, Steve has your backs. There'll be plenty of prisons built around the country soon enough to take care of this "epidemic" that's sweeping the country.
