Idiots of the year......................

Post by boeingboy »

A man and woman are blown over by a Jetblue A320 while trying to hold on to the fence at Princess juliana international airport.
Jet blast can flip a bus - but they think they can hold on..................

2 things jump at a me....insult to injury, it seems as though the girl was getting a ticket as she was laying there getting help.

The other was this:
The Telegraph reports the runway, at 2,100 metres, is one of the shortest in the world. One end of the runway is the ocean and the other is the mountains.
Oh and yeah, 0:44 as well!

Last month I saw a bunch of yahoos try this behind an MD80. No heads smashed in but several were hurt. Cheap entertainment.

The fine was for "flying" without paying for a ticket on Jetblue. Good thing she didn't seem to have any carry-on with her.

Seems like russians don't take snow and ice serious enough...

I would have been pretty scared if I was on that Airbus.

I can't believe they are operating aircraft like this. This is a big safety issue.

Reminds of the time many years ago when I delayed a flight out of YYJ because of snow on the wings of my airplane .....the Air Canada station manager came out and looked at my wings and asked what my problem was ..... I replied politely that I would like to be de-iced. He said their DC9 took off a few minutes ago with no problem ....it will blow off. Really? When it blows off ....you can call me. I went for coffee.
According to this video .....maybe he was right! It did blow off!
Just my thoughts .....

And also this..............

Russia struggles to stem low-visibility landing accidents
Print By: David Kaminski-Morrow London 01:00 29 Mar 2012 Source:

Russia's federal aviation safety authority is grappling with the problem of overconfidence in the cockpit as it seeks to curtail the risk of accidents during landings in low-visibility conditions.

Rosaviatsia detailed the problem to commercial aviation leaders at a briefing aimed at addressing the risks, following the loss of several aircraft on approach in poor weather.

These have included the destruction of a UTAir Tupolev Tu-134 at Samara in 2007, the crash of a Katekavia Antonov An-24 at Igarka and a Tu-204 at Moscow in 2010, and that of another Tu-134, operated by RusAir, at Petrozavodsk in June last year.

Airport safety inspection chief Sergei Masterov cited below-minimum weather conditions as a factor in 36 of 61 commercial aviation accidents in Russia between 1990 and 2011.

Masterov highlighted several common elements: the remaining fuel was "more than sufficient" for a diversion; aircraft descended below minimum height despite a lack of visual contact with ground reference points; and crews sometimes had inadequate weather data.

But he also pointed out that the captains had "sufficient experience" and that there was strong evidence of "overconfidence and overestimation of capabilities" during low-visibility approaches.

Masterov said that in some cases, the crews could have avoided an accident simply by waiting for the weather to improve, "rather than trying to land at the first attempt".

There had been a liberalisation of rules regarding low-visibility approaches, he added, but there continues to be a problem in finding the criteria that would serve to reduce the risk of collision with the ground.

Rosaviatsia chief Alexander Neradko raised concerns over the frequency of violations of meteorological minima at airports and said that airline managers have "different attitudes" towards performing approaches in these conditions - claiming that some operators encouraged such activity, while others penalised their crews.

Neradko said that prevention of accidents, rather than punishment, needed to be the primary issue.

Thanks for showing that, North Shore. I've been telling people at work for years that de-icing is a waste of time.

Well .... what can you say about that video....scary sh#t. As for saving the cost of de-icing, in my time up north, I have worked for some cheap ass bush operators who would never pay for de-icing. So.....with a broom, ice scraper, credit/bank card, a cold pisscan of Type 1, even with my bare fingernails, I had to de-ice the aircraft. I once made a 10L pisscan of Type1 last a whole season because the operator I was working for wouldn't buy anymore!!! But I have never taken to the air with an aircraft covered in sh#t like that!!!!!!! That stuff was still blowing off as they entered cloud at about 1000ft. I guess it's okay if you just rotate later

Fly safe everyone

I know what will fly, and what will not, through a couple of very frightening experiences. It's not something I will teach, or ever want to repeat. Suffice to say, clean the wings. Saying "no" is far easier in theory than it is in practice. At least as far as the "clean wing" concept is concerned. Take my word on this one.

I remember years ago reading an article on worldwide air accident death statistics. There was a disclaimer stating that Russian air carrier crashes were excluded from the study due to their abnormally high incident rate skewing the numbers.

Probably was cold soaked, if the plane and the atmosphere are atthe same temp and below zero, an falling snow wont stick and will just blow off as was demonstrated in that video. It works probably 99 times out of 100. heres the 100th time:

http://www.aviationpros.com/news/106907 ... vert-crash
The company representatives have again named ground icing of the aircraft's wing and stabiliser as the main cause of the accident.

De-icing from now on will be mandatory for all aircraft of the UTair airline.

What? It 'just blew off'?
I have to disagree with you. It wasn't cold soaked and there is still lots of adherence to that wing, and the critical surfaces visible in that clip. Looks to me like that outer 1/3 of that aileron was covered- again there is LOTS on that wing.
I don't have to see the METAR but can pretty much guess the ambient conditions there. Those guys were fools. I wouldn't trust them with my bicycle.

Sure- it "worked", but wonder how well things would have worked with an engine failure shortly after V1?

Looks like it's amateur-hour at Aeroflot.

The Ruskies don't need ice for accidents. Just check their flying record in bad weather in balmy africa.
