The DC10 crews are gone? Are you saying that aircraft down in GYR isn't coming out?
Anyhow, if there is another wave of folks my sympathies go out to you guys. Regardless of our alignment to our individual employers, at the end of the day we're all just trying to make a buck and pay the bills.

The layoff at ACE was indeed in the maintenance dept . Two Senior ACAs were laid-off plus some other engineers and apprentices . However most of these guys are back working at ACE on a contract basis ,making more money . ACe has "C" checks coming up on all its airplanes .So lots of work .

Their AMO certificate (#47-03) states:
Not exactly sure what is covered under "non-specialized work" but I'd imagine that C checks would be considered specialized...
I thought they had sent their aircraft down to NC or somewhere like that for the work.
Just can't see them having the resources to bring it in house - but who knows. But, I'm not an AME so really can't validate or dispel any of it, just IMHO...

I am not sure how they are going to handle it either . We used to get the checks done all over the place Quebec City and Brunswick Ga were two of the places . Company wanted into the heavy maintanece a long time ago ,when they were planning the yhm hanger .
Guys in the hanger seem to think its going to be in house . Lots of work if it actually happens

I have never done a 'C' check so im not sure how involved it is. Here are the definitions according CARs.
Non-specialized
Any maintenance on the aircraft of the types specified, or any of their component parts, provided the maintenance is not specialized maintenance under the provisions of Schedule II of CAR 571. (amended 1998/06/01)
Specialized work meaning all of this on this link...

If you think a professional costs a lot, wait until you see what an amateur will cost you

Again, not being an AME I'm not 100% certain what constitues a C check except I know it's like a month and a half job on the 727.
I would guess that a C check includes a bunch of those specialized jobs, especially if you were to find a problem (eg spar etc). And doesnt a C check include ND testing which they list as specialized?
Anyhow, just curious.
If they end up bringing it in house congrats. I imagine the hangar rental alone will be a big ticket item since it needs to be leased (versus some of the heavy maintenance facilities like the one in YQB that's owned by the company that does the work).
If they do take it in house perhaps it'll be a good revenue centre for them if they open the doors to other operators.
