Aero,

You sure that wasn't the one from a few weeks ago? (20 something guys let go).

After that last big cut I can't imagine more guys being laid off. They can't be carrying that many crews right now.

Unless they're looking for DC10 crews of course :D

The DC10 crews that were hired have already been terminated. This new round is news to me. Time to do some investigating.

The DC10 crews are gone? Are you saying that aircraft down in GYR isn't coming out?

Anyhow, if there is another wave of folks my sympathies go out to you guys. Regardless of our alignment to our individual employers, at the end of the day we're all just trying to make a buck and pay the bills.

Everyone that was hired for the DC-10 was fired on May 9th.

I was told at that time the company would continue "downsizing".

:) Not upset at all, just trying to anwser Cargodog's question that only those in management know about the 10. Wouldn't we all like to know what the deal is with the aircraft at GYR.

So how is "Susie" :smt061 anyway?

False alarm, layoff was only for 1 AME and 1 mechanic (not licenced).

The layoff at ACE was indeed in the maintenance dept . Two Senior ACAs were laid-off plus some other engineers and apprentices . However most of these guys are back working at ACE on a contract basis ,making more money . ACe has "C" checks coming up on all its airplanes .So lots of work .

Aero

Yep thats thats what is going to happen. I am a little unsure how they are going to do "C" checks ,but I guess they are going to be done in house.

Wow, that will be a more then few contractors and long down time.
I am not sure that their AMO covers C check, or they just get that ....

Do you know if they'll be done at midfield hangers? If so they'll probably get some help from Skyservice FBO maintenance.

Their AMO certificate (#47-03) states:
AO #: 47-03 Printable Version
ALLCANADA EXPRESS INC.
Mississauga, ON
Mailing Address
50 Burnhamthorpe Road West, Suite 603
Mississauga ON L5B 3C2
Phone: 905 896 7175
Fax: 905 896 2244

Aircraft
Rating Scope of Work
Boeing 727 series aeroplanes All non-specialized work

Not exactly sure what is covered under "non-specialized work" but I'd imagine that C checks would be considered specialized...

I thought they had sent their aircraft down to NC or somewhere like that for the work.

Just can't see them having the resources to bring it in house - but who knows. But, I'm not an AME so really can't validate or dispel any of it, just IMHO...

I am not sure how they are going to handle it either . We used to get the checks done all over the place Quebec City and Brunswick Ga were two of the places . Company wanted into the heavy maintanece a long time ago ,when they were planning the yhm hanger .
Guys in the hanger seem to think its going to be in house . Lots of work if it actually happens

I have never done a 'C' check so im not sure how involved it is. Here are the definitions according CARs.

Non-specialized
Any maintenance on the aircraft of the types specified, or any of their component parts, provided the maintenance is not specialized maintenance under the provisions of Schedule II of CAR 571. (amended 1998/06/01)

Specialized work meaning all of this on this link...

Again, not being an AME I'm not 100% certain what constitues a C check except I know it's like a month and a half job on the 727.

I would guess that a C check includes a bunch of those specialized jobs, especially if you were to find a problem (eg spar etc). And doesnt a C check include ND testing which they list as specialized?

Anyhow, just curious.

If they end up bringing it in house congrats. I imagine the hangar rental alone will be a big ticket item since it needs to be leased (versus some of the heavy maintenance facilities like the one in YQB that's owned by the company that does the work).

If they do take it in house perhaps it'll be a good revenue centre for them if they open the doors to other operators.

You don't need "specialized maintenance" to do a C check. Any work that falls into that category can simply be contracted out. The actual C check is mostly inspection and NDT (which is specialized and usually contracted out anyhow).

Is the DC10 program officially dead?

It was on the TIMCO ramp at GYR, but now it's back in the field? Don't think that's a very good sign...

I heard the DC10 is undergoing some sort of large inspection. I think it's a planned thing. I heard last fall that they wanted 2 -10's flying by this May-June, because the first one would be down for a month while this inspection is done.
