The Harper regime is not kind to those who ask questions or try to fight for better working conditions. Shame on the pilots for thinking they could use a natural and democratic process to try and advance their economic prospects. You are quite right that the NHL strike will have a great impact on the Canadian economy, think of all the money that bars and restaurants will lose, as well as television networks, etc.
I guess Air Canada management has good friends in the Harper regime to help them nail the coffin shut.

Not really....bars will just have to switch their channels to other popular Canadian sports.....like water polo or cricket!

Re: NHL VS AIR CANADA
I hear that bullshit argument all the time: the economy is going to lose out because of the NHL strike.
The economy will be better off. It's not like Hockey fans are going to put the money saved in their savings account. That money still gets spent, and largely still gets spent in the hospitality sector.

Canadian Labour Code only applies to Federally-regulated industries, eg transportation, banking, telecom. No authority over pro sports.

Let's see, looming environmental crises, economic turbulence, an 8?% unemployment rate, and people think that the government has time and money to waste stepping in to legislate a work stoppage in a game?

Ok...so Harper legislates them back to work...
Are we going for an all Canadian team league then? Harper may have pronounced himself King but even he might have trouble getting the US teams back to work.
