Cargojet hiring?
I see Cargojet is hiring DE captains. Is it just me or does it seem odd that an outfit that size has to go outside for captains? Are all the ripe FO's heading off for greener pastures elsewhere?
Re: Cargojet hiring?
All the FO's (who aren't recent Seneca grads and aren't yet qualified)...and most of the Captains (except the full time permanent Americans)...and most of the training Captains...

Full time permanent Americans?
On work permits or are they Canadian Residents ?
Re: Cargojet hiring?
I admit that my knowledge is second hand - I haven't seen their paperwork. But my sources are good.

Have not worked there in awhile, but there where some temporary ones hired (Ex Champion Air) when CJ couldn't fill seats fast enough in 2008 and all where laid off at the end of 2008.
However read below note the date:
So that was all kosher until some Union types or Government organization (Hearsay Alert) got all hot a bothered about it and threatened to pull the plug. So CJ obviously not wanting to give up the run compromised and hired some of those Ex Champion pilots to operate the EWR - BDA - EWR. That is just what I heard, I could be completely wrong.Cargojet Announces International Route Expansion
November 22, 2005
Cargojet Income Fund (the "Fund") (TSX: CJT.UN) announced today that they have recently begun operating their first scheduled international cargo route.
Cargojet has received permission from the U.S. Department of Transport to operate five prime time frequencies per week between Newark, NJ (New York) and Bermuda. This initiative is in keeping with the recently relaxed Fifth Freedom rights negotiated in the new Canada / USA Open Skies Agreement. The flight originates at Cargojet’s hub in Hamilton, ON and provides service to Newark and Bermuda. This new service will provide both Canadian and US based shippers direct air cargo service to and from Canada to Newark, New York and Bermuda, which will be serviced by our current fleet of Boeing 727-200 Advanced Freighters.
“This new routing will provide shippers with seamless air cargo movements from all across Canada to Bermuda. Projected additional annual revenues of six to eight million dollars are expected from this route expansion. We have patterned this route on the same successful model that we have built our domestic Canadian overnight air cargo network upon, with guaranteed block space revenue contracts and fuel cost increase pass-through provisions”, said Ajay K. Virmani, President & C.E.O. of the Fund.
Cargojet is Canada’s leading provider of time sensitive overnight air cargo services. Cargojet operates its network from coast to coast to thirteen major Canadian cities each business night, on behalf of major couriers, freight forwarders and manufacturers.

Re: Cargojet hiring?
That's not really a new run. AllCanada Express used to do that run until sometime in 2005 when they folded. I was an SO on that run a number of times. That was "5th freedom rights" as well.
Re: Cargojet hiring?
This may have came out of that, but it is recent and ongoing.

Re: Cargojet hiring?
Any word on the Captain hiring situation?
Were they able to do some upgrades, or did they have to bring in US Captains again?

Re: Cargojet hiring?
Ok lets get something straight here. The American guys being hired by cargo jet to operate the New York BDA route is bull shit. This is a Bermuda Run authorized by the country to run back and forth from EWR to BDA. The aircraft lays over in EWR although it spends more time in Ewr then it does in BDA. The American pilots that were and are being hired by Cargo Jet management is nothing but a low blow to all the pilots at cargo jet. The owner AJ has said statement like "Americans are cheaper labour" "I am doing this for you guys so you all can have more time at home and not work you SDO's". I have a bright idea HIRE more Canadians. Its all bull shit. Also you may hear that Americans are doing the run because American customs won’t allow the Canadians to do it. Yeah that’s all bullshit to. So all you thinking of joining this Team if you like bull shit, being over worked and under paid then this is the dream job for you.
Soon they will be hiring direct entry F/O as well. that should tell you something. Last but not least they will be highing 23 new second officers as the seneca group takes off all at once. Well hope CAW works shit out for the cargo jet drivers. Good group of pilots in a shitty situation.
WELL IT IS WHAT IT IS
have to go my check in is at 1201am. (thats a whole other issue)
