Van City Seaplanes Beaver Crash Vancouver Airport/CAM9 today
Apparently the plane bent the wing after sticking it in the water after/during landing.
Waiting on Cadors or CTV News for more detail.
Don't think anyone injured. Witnesses; plenty, at flying Beaver bar.

It's the new Corsair model Beaver. No one hurt but Pilot shook up. I told him it would buff right out.

Ok I'll be the first to put my hand up. What's a "Corsair Model Beaver."Bulawrench wrote:It's the new Corsair model Beaver.

Was the wing damaged very badly?
Re: Van City Seaplanes Beaver Crash Vancouver Airport/CAM9 t
It was actually damaged quite nicely, not a cloud in the sky, lot's of audience, and severe bend in the spar, up about 45% just outboard of strut (corsair style). That wing won't fly again this week.

Don't know why they didn't spring for the STC for winglets on both sides!
Re: Van City Seaplanes Beaver Crash Vancouver Airport/CAM9 t
Poor GQZ! Glad no one was hurt.
Re: Van City Seaplanes Beaver Crash Vancouver Airport/CAM9 t
That should give better clearance when taxiing up to the dock... Looks like a good mod!

Glad to hear no one hurt (physically) -- birch pole and a little cable and she is flyable --

Dial in a little aileron and/or rudder trim and it should be manageable.Doc wrote:That'll buff right out.cdnpilot77 wrote:I would say this is probably not air worthy

But seriously... I just got my float rating ( with all of 7.1 hours) and even though I have roughly slightly over a thousand times as much TT, these water take offs and landings have my full concentration. In fact being low time in this environment...the mental analysis that I have to do beforehand is much more involved than a similar maneuver on wheels.
Re: Van City Seaplanes Beaver Crash Vancouver Airport/CAM9 t
A crosswind doesn't care what surface you are departing from - in general the technique is the same... correct aileron deflection into wind, keep straight with rudder - neutralize as able with speed - do whatever is required to keep aircraft straight. If departing the surface with aileron correction applied - do whatever is required to keep aircraft straight and keep the wings out of the water/weeds/pavement. Whether you roll one float out first or lift one wheel off first the above applies.

Gee Que Zerd... I've got some time in that old girl too. Nobody hurt, bunch of tin bent, big splash - move along, nothing to see here. Hope the pilot gets to keep his job...

I never liked jacuzzi; she's been passed around the south coast like the common cold. Glad nobody was hurt.
