WJ Mainline Interviews
Any word on when interviews will be starting up again at mainline? Does anyone know how many there are still in the pool?
Re: WJ Mainline Interviews
Website showing a posting so I'd guess soon...

Re: WJ Mainline Interviews
Does that really mean Mainline though? Or there are chances of getting 'bumped' to Encore?
Re: WJ Mainline Interviews
There is no bumping here into Encore or mainline etc. You apply for one or the other or both. If you do not wish to work for one or the other simply don't apply for the one you wish to avoid. Hope this helps.
The interview process however is the same for both and you will only do it once.
Cheers

Re: WJ Mainline Interviews
Oh I do remember reading something about people going into Mainline interviews a year ago and being asked "Would you be willing to work at Encore instead?" - so that's what I was going by.
I'm happy at a regional carrier, and have no intention of jumping ship!

Re: WJ Mainline Interviews
You apply directly to either Encore or mainline. There is no bait and switch.
From my understanding if you applied to Encore you do the "WestJet" interview plus another interview to go mainline when the time comes. Sure hope I'm wrong but that's what I was lead to believe by the HR lady.

Re: WJ Mainline Interviews
Hi Guys,
The WestJet posting is up today - for a period of 3 months only.
As for the position - it is for WestJet only - it is false about doing the interview for WestJet and forcing to go to Encore.
The only ones that were indeed asked if they are interested in Encore, are ones that are currently in the pool. What happened was WestJet ended up canceling a couple courses last year - then we simply asked if they were interested in Encore because we cancelled the WestJet courses....it never ceases to amaze me how things get construed.
Regardless, I have about 16 in my current pool. I plan on using most of them for my 2 courses in March of (8) In addition, I have already taken 8 from the current pool for the Feb course - then it will be off the street for my April (8) and part of May courses (8)
May is when Encore flow starts! So pilots will start transferring then as they have become eligible for transfer effective April 22.
We then have a summer void until the planned fall courses run in Sept and Oct.
Hopefully those courses will be mostly made up of Encore pilots. (that's our goal - to reach 100 percent flow from Encore) the struggle is the aggressive growth strategy for them and bottlenecking at the sim.
By the way, everyone - Encore or WestJet - does the same interview. There is no second interview if you say start at Encore and transfer to WestJet. Your first interview was your last if you choose to make it a career here. Gina (the hr lady didn't mislead you) there is no second interview.
Take care,
Dave

DaveP,
Any idea on the number of positions that are going to be filled here?

I'm sure the average interviewees will be around 5000+ hrs?

Re: WJ Mainline Interviews
Since this is the first time (to my knowledge) that there is a WestJet and Encore posting at the same time, I am going to assume there are a few people who have their names in the running for both. Since it has been mentioned that the interviews are the same, how would this work out. On initial phone call would they specify which stream they are interviewing you for, or would you do the entire process and then be informed (if successful) where you are to be placed.

Re: WJ Mainline Interviews
Hmm. Pardon my ignorance, but where is the job posting that is mentioned? Neither the Westjet site nor the SuccessFactors site linked to shows any flight deck positions that I can find?
Thanks!
Thanks!
Re: WJ Mainline Interviews
It's posted in their career section, I just checked.
Re: WJ Mainline Interviews
I see it says YYC base but other threads talking about new bases opening. Before I apply, can anyone confirm YYZ will be an official base?
Has the new "revised" payscale been posted somwhere?
Thanks

Re: WJ Mainline Interviews
I take it that you are referring to Encore, because if you were referring to Mainline, it would be akin to asking "Is AC hiring direct entry Captains on the 777 for the YVR base?"Maxpwr wrote:Does anyone know if they will be taking any direct entry Captains for the YYZ base?
Re: WJ Mainline Interviews
I'm sorry I should have been specific. Of course I meant EncoreImpact wrote:I take it that you are referring to Encore, because if you were referring to Mainline, it would be akin to asking "Is AC hiring direct entry Captains on the 777 for the YVR base?"Maxpwr wrote:Does anyone know if they will be taking any direct entry Captains for the YYZ base?

Re: WJ Mainline Interviews
I don't think they're hiring DE captains anymore.
Re: WJ Mainline Interviews
I bet they will for the YYZ base, since they had a hard time drawing in experienced talent to fill the ranks in Calgary. Probably hoping to poach more Porter/Jazz drivers who were not willing to make the move out west initially, but are now willing to jump into the gongshow that is Encore.

What makes it a gongshow?Kosiw wrote:I bet they will for the YYZ base, since they had a hard time drawing in experienced talent to fill the ranks in Calgary. Re: WJ Mainline Interviews
My understanding is that a number of the crews from Encore are chomping at the bit to start flying out of YYZ since they are from there.
I'm pretty sure they won't have a problem filling the seats.

Re: WJ Mainline Interviews
YYZ is opening in June. YYZ - YQT and YQT - YWG were officially announced as Encore route from the Toronto base.
A decent list of people at Encore now who want to move to YYZ as soon as possible. There will be no trouble staffing the YYZ base initially.
There are no more DECs being hired.
