Have you downloaded the charts for the region you are looking at? I had the same problem until I realized I had to download the charts for my region. If its not that, then good luck.

Installed this app on my good ol' Samsung Galaxy S2 cellphone (Android v4.0). Software is not my greatest joy, so the learning curve has been slightly uphill. However, after downloading the southeastern Canada VNC file (a VERY LARGE file), I have to say it's moving map capability is impressive. Impressive because everything this far has been free! Once the VNC maps are downloaded, you won't need a wifi connection to follow your progress enroute. Even if the app does not display any maps, it will still provide ground speed, true course, lat and long, and altitude, provided you have enable the gps function on your device. Going to the "Maps option" button in the "Maps" tab, and checking "Disable zoom restriction" will allow you to scan the whole map, not just where the aircraft icon is currently located. I'm sure if I took the time to figure it out, I could probably get it to plot my course track line from point A to B. I think this involves going online to their website and setting up a profile/log in.

Be sure to have lighter plug-in capability if using on flights longer than say, 60 minutes. It sucks battery juice like crazy! Mind you, my devices old battery has seen better days.

I am not aware of any other software/device that provides these kind capabilities for free. Go for it.
