A friend a couple years ago was asked by a jazz HR rep to upload their saron and samra results. After uploading the jazz rep advised they were expired, and to update application once either they had valid saron/samra or iatra exams. So my friend went to another carrier where they accepted their ATPL license without having to have the exams written recently. Maybe that’s why I wasn’t called as of yet.
I’m sorry but this sounds like complete bs, you either have an ATPL or you don’t! If, you have written the exams but are awaiting the total time or another parameter to be met, then the exams used to expire, I can’t find the reference right now, if they were short the requirements they could have been past that date.
Maybe your friend was in that category but either way, many, MANY pilots have been hired without an ATPL, they only need to “prove” an ATPL for an upgrade
Not BS. My friend had an ATPL. My reply was to a member who said they didn’t understand HR at times and I gave an example of not understanding HR at times.
Yeah but your situation and your example do not connect at all. In one post you say that you're an ATPL candidate and in your example your friend needed to prove his ATPL exams. The exams become null and void basically when that ATPL sticker is in your book. Mine were long since expired when I applied for my last job.
Jazz does not typically look at exams if you present them a valid ATPL.

My friend had an ATPL. Jazz HR rep asked for their saron/samra results. They didn’t ask for a scan of their booklet.

Doesn't make sense at all. I know a few ATPL applicants. It was logbook and Licence/Medical. There is no expiry to those exams if you hold the licence.

As a general rule, if a candidate cannot figure out how to answer simple HR questions and/or properly provide credentials, it is doubtful they would successfully complete Jazz initial training.
If a recruitment file goes sideway, it is way more likely that the candidate was somehow at fault than Jazz HR messing up the file.
What does “qualified” candidates mean for 705 ops HR departments? Applying at most regionals in Canada with an ATPL and extensive King Air Captain time I’m not having the interest from operators as I thought I would in a time period that there’s suppose to be crew shortages.
They do want captain candidates and you should be in that based on your credentials. I don't understand HR departments quite frankly.

FYI i got hired at jazz with 700+hrs and valid IATRA. 2.5 months until GS date and another 2.5 months until GS start date.
You having an ATPL doesn't make sense not to get a call back, but then again at an ATPL I'd expect you to apply directly at WS or AC proper

Could one of the legal types on here (JBI? Bede?) explain, if the company (Jazz) is in violation of the contract in two ways, why the pilots are being held to a no strike clause?
A bit outside of my expertise, but I'll try to answer. First, 2 things:
This type of situation severely sucks for the pilots, because it is a clear violation of the CA. An arbitrator will be loath to demand the company flow/stop/do whatever they should be doing because that would interfere with the business. If I was negotiation for ALPA, I'd try to get as much out of the company as I could. Bypass pay, etc. At WestJet, they have something called REIP. I'm not to familiar with it, but it's an extra payment WJ pilots that come from Encore get (or got) to compensate them for something. Again, I don't know much about it but the Encore guys managed to get it.

And, what would happen if they were to walk out wildcat?
Most likely, an Application to the CIRB by the employer, some back and forth, then the pilots would agree to go back to work in exchange for no discipline and no fines for the union.

Did you get paid from your hire date until you started GS?

No you only get paid starting your first day, which is the ground school date.

Jazz could just be using the exam results to help assist in hiring selection vs a TC requirement.
I'm not suggesting it's a good way to evaluate people but it is something everyone has to complete.
